Recovery is necessarily a constant, ongoing process in order to adapt to the stresses placed on the body. The key considerations to take into account are either physical or psychological, with each of them subdividing into acute recovery or longer-term adaptations. As such, recovery cannot be the result of a single strategy.
Recovery should vary depending on team or athlete goals. This may show up as a different focus for recovery during preseason compared to in season; the athlete’s training age, fitness and strength levels; and competition density, with different strategies supporting each.
