Sam Robertson is a Professor of Sports Analytics at Victoria University. As the leader of the Sports Performance and Business programme within the Institute for Health and Sport, he is responsible for driving research and commercial activity within sport at Victoria University. He is also responsible for managing its many sports industry partnerships, including Tennis Australia, the Western Bulldogs, FIFA, Barcelona Innovation Hub and the Australian Football League. Sam’s role is to consult on and improve operational decision making to professional sports clubs globally and is involved in the sports technology start-up scene. His research predominantly focuses on the application of analytics for improving decision-making of both athletes and sports organisations.
Prior to his work at Victoria University, Sam worked as a sport scientist in various institute roles in Australia and the United Kingdom. He returned to Australia to undertake multiple applied roles in Australian football and golf. He also held an ongoing position as Lecturer in Biomechanics at Deakin University, and completed his PhD at Edith Cowan University in skill acquisition and talent identification as part of his role in Research and Innovation with the Golf Australia High Performance program. Throughout his career Sam has published more than 120 peer-reviewed papers.
