Emily Matijevich is the Director of Biometrics and Applied Research at Orpyx Medical Technologies. Her research expertise lies at the intersection of biomechanics, wearables, and health technology. In both academic and industry settings, Emily has contributed to sporting equipment and wearable algorithm solutions that reduce the risk of overuse injuries, enhance human performance, and extend mobility. Her work has focused on evaluating the biomechanical mechanisms of running shoes and other footwear as well as on developing multi-modal wearable sensor algorithms that monitor musculoskeletal loading and injury risk. She has helped companies such as CCM Hockey, Brooks Running, Li-Ning, Dr. Scholl’s, Kinetyx, and Orpyx tackle biomechanics and data science research initiatives.
Emily earned a BS in Bioengineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2016, earned a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University in 2020, and completed a postdoc at the University of Calgary in 2023. In addition to research, Emily is passionate about STEM outreach and science communication. Originally from Chicago, IL, Emily now works and lives in Calgary, Canada. In her free time, she enjoys teaching yoga at studios throughout Calgary and adventuring with shoes, skis, ropes, paddle boards, and bikes in the Canadian rockies.
