Sprint mechanics and hamstring injury management

Presentation description

Jean-Benoit (JB) Morin and his colleagues are at the forefront of research and practice when it comes to the development of an athletes sprint mechanics to reduce the risk of hamstring injury. This presentation details the research that is currently available on this topic and takes you through recommended exercises and interventions to improve sprint mechanics to reduce the risk of hamstring injury. JB finishes off by showing us the detail of a hamstring rehabilitation and we can take the principles he has learnt and researched, and implement it in our own setting.

Learning objectives

  • Understand the biomechanical factors in sprint mechanics that are associated with hamstring strain injury risk.
  • Apply assessment tools (e.g. the Sprint Mechanics Assessment Score – S-MAS) and specific indicators to evaluate sprint technique for injury risk.
  • Design reconditioning and training interventions that address sprint mechanics deficits and safely reintegrate athletes post-hamstring injury.

About the presenter

JB Morin is Full Professor at the University of Saint-Etienne (France), Director of the Sports Science Department, and a member of the Interuniversity Laboratory of Human Movement Biology (LIBM). He specializes in sprint mechanics, hamstring strain injury, and injury risk mitigation.
