Presentation description
In this presentation, Brady Green explores the complex process of rehabilitating and returning athletes to play following a high-grade soleus intramuscular aponeurosis injury. Using a detailed clinical case, Brady demonstrates how to integrate injury pathology, individual risk factors, and sport-specific demands into a systematic rehabilitation framework.
The session highlights how clinical reasoning, load monitoring, and targeted exercise selection can help restore soleus function and reduce the risk of recurrence. Attendees will gain practical strategies for addressing the unique challenges of soleus injuries, such as restoring lateral aponeurotic integrity, balancing power and endurance demands, and reconditioning athletes for the horizontal and vertical forces of running.
Through outcome measures, monitoring tools, and progression strategies, Brady shows how to move beyond generic calf rehab and deliver context-specific, data-informed return-to-play decisions.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this presentation, learners will:
- Understand the pathology and risk factors associated with recurrent soleus injuries and their impact on prognosis.
- Apply a structured clinical reasoning model to guide decision-making throughout the rehab and return-to-play process.
- Identify appropriate outcome measures (strength, power, SSC profiling, horizontal propulsion, etc.) to monitor progress.
- Implement targeted exercise strategies to address lateral aponeurotic involvement and restore soleus-specific capacities.
- Recognize the importance of long-term monitoring post-return-to-play to reduce reinjury risk.
