Presentation description
Hamstring injuries remain one of the most common and recurrent injuries in American football, with reinjury rates posing significant challenges to practitioners responsible for return-to-play decision making. In this presentation, Pete Galasso outlines an evidence-informed framework for minimizing hamstring reinjury through a sprint-based rehabilitation model, objective performance criteria, and a structured progression from initial injury through to full return to competition. Attendees will gain practical insights into integrating strength assessment, gait analysis, GPS monitoring, acceleration-based rehabilitation, and post-return load management to reduce recurrence risk and improve athlete confidence.
Learning objectives
- Understand the rationale and implementation of a sprint-based hamstring rehabilitation and return-to-run progression.
- Evaluate the strengths and limitations of common return-to-play assessments, including strength asymmetry testing and performance-based criteria.
- Apply a comprehensive clinical performance framework to guide return-to-play decision making and minimize hamstring reinjury risk.
