Presentation description
Calf injuries can keep recurring during rehabilitation even when an athlete’s strength and capacity look good. Brady Green presents a case where rehab failed three times, using a stepwise framework that accounts for the injury, the athlete and the demands of the sport. He shows how strength testing, stretch-shortening cycle diagnostics and a sequenced, mixed loading programme guided a successful return to play from soleus and gastrocnemius injuries.
Learning objectives
- Understand how injury location, connective tissue involvement and athlete-specific risk factors shape prognosis and recurrence risk after soleus and gastrocnemius injuries.
- Identify leftover impairments that peak strength measures can miss, using strength testing and stretch-shortening cycle diagnostics.
- Apply a sequenced, mixed loading approach and a criteria-led return to run to guide the return-to-play pathway
