Presentation description
In-season physical preparation is constrained by dense competition schedules, travel, limited facility access, and constant competing priorities with technical/tactical work. This presentation outlines microdosing as a framework for delivering minimal effective doses of targeted strength/power/speed/mobility exposures across the week, often embedded pre-practice, to preserve key training residuals, improve readiness assessment, and reduce the “one big lift” recovery cost. Practical, sport-specific systems are provided for 1-game/week, 2-games/week, and daily-game environments, plus monitoring strategies to individualize dosing and sustain performance across long seasons.
Learning objectives
- Define microdosing in an in-season context and distinguish it from traditional “1–2 lifts/week” models using dose–response logic.
- Apply constraint-based planning to select an appropriate microdosing system (1-game, 2-game, or fluid daily-game) and map themes to the competitive week.
- Design a monitoring and autoregulation approach (e.g., force plates, VBT bands, wellness/RPE) that adjusts microdosed exposures to readiness, travel stress, and player role.
About the presenter
Stephanie Grubbs is a strength coach and performance scientist with the Houston Astros, with applied experience building microdosing systems across college and professional environments. Her approach emphasizes constraint-led programming, frequent readiness evaluation, and practical integration of weight-room themes with practice demands to support in-season health and performance.
