Developing deceleration beyond a physical quality

Hailu Theodros

Presentation description

Deceleration testing and training is rightly getting the attention is deserves. But are we focusing too much on the physical side and neglecting the skill side of its development?

In this presentation, Physical Performance Coach for the England Men’s national football team, Hailu Theodros takes us through a case study on how he develops deceleration ability through skill enhancement AND physical capabilities. Lots of video examples and drills bring this to life so you can implement some of Hailu’s recommendations right away.

Learning objectives

  • Recognize the limitations of viewing deceleration solely as a strength or power metric
  • Learn how to integrate skill acquisition (movement, control, variability) into deceleration training
  • Develop the ability to design deceleration drills that respect both physical and neuromotor constraints

About the presenter

Hailu Theodros, Physical Performance Coach for the England Men’s national football team, brings a dual lens of on-field experience and scientific insight to this presentation. He shares video case studies, training protocols, and implementation strategies to elevate how practitioners train and measure deceleration.
