An introduction to coordination based training

Leigh Egger & Jan Muller

Presentation description

This presentation demystifies “coordination-based training,” clarifying common misunderstandings of its terminology, and showing when, where and how to use it effectively. Drawing on insight from performance and rehabilitation at Feyenoord, Leigh Egger and Jan Muller guide through exercise selection and execution so that coaches can confidently begin to incorporate coordination work into athlete training. Jan begins by outlining key terminology and underpinning knowledge. Following this Leigh walks us through exercise selection and execution.

Learning objectives

  • Grasp and correctly use key terminology around coordination training, avoiding common misinterpretations.
  • Learn how to select and execute coordination exercises appropriate to athlete needs, task complexity, and training context.
  • Develop the ability to design a coordination-based training plan that can be experimented with, adapted, and applied practically with athletes.

About the presenters

Leigh Egger is Head of Performance at Feyenoord and Jan Muller is a Rehab Physiotherapist at Feyenoord; together they bring both performance and injury-rehab perspectives. They combine theoretical clarity (terminology, principles) with real-world examples of exercise selection and implementation in a high-level football club environment.
