Matt is the Head of Performance Science, Data and Technology at Rugby Australia, with responsibility for leading the organisation’s high-performance data and technology strategy across national and pathway programs. Over the past five years, he has worked closely with the Wallabies, Junior Wallabies, and Australia A, supporting performance outcomes through the integration of performance science, data systems, and applied servicing. In his role, Matt oversees the collection, governance, and application of athlete data, with a focus on translating complex information into practical insights for coaches, medical staff, and performance practitioners. His work centres on embedding evidence-based methodologies, aligning technology with performance needs, and building systems that support informed decision-making in high-performance environments. Matt brings a strong research background to his applied practice, having completed his PhD at the University of Sydney. His research examined the match demands of women’s rugby sevens and their application to training and performance frameworks. This research continues to inform his work at Rugby Australia, particularly in the areas of workload monitoring, performance profiling, and the integration of research into elite performance practice.
