Presentation description
Dan Tobin breaks down how he holds his S&C programme accountable across two domains: content and coaching. Using plyometric training data from professional rugby, he shows how safe-to-fail experiments and practice-based evidence replaced common practice with methods that actually worked for his players. He then turns to coaching quality, explaining why biomechanics programmes fail and how his department built a simplified technical model, coaching checklist, and micro-dosing structure that drove measurable improvements in sprint mechanics and soft tissue injury rates. This is a practical framework for proving your programme works, not just hoping it does.
Learning objectives
- Critically analyse how practice-based evidence can challenge established research-driven programming decisions.
- Evaluate the interaction between technical models, coaching delivery, and biomechanical intervention within injury-risk management.
- Design monitoring frameworks that objectively determine whether coaching interventions produce measurable performance or technical change.
