Movement and muscle

Presentation description

This presentation from world-renowned speed coach, Jonas Dodoo dives into the profiling and programming aspects of speed and change of direction development.

Jonas explains his physical focus and his kinematic focus before showing us what efficient movement really looks like. He then takes us through is “quadrants of acceleration” which groups athletes into one of four buckets: 1) step length & air based, 2) step length & ground based, 3) step frequency & air based, 4) step frequency & ground based. He finishes off with how he assesses programmes and coaches his three KPI’s: projection, switching and reactivity.

Learning objectives

  • Understand the role of kinematic versus physical profiling in speed and COD (change-of-direction) development
  • Learn how the “quadrants of acceleration” model categorises athletes and informs training emphases
  • Gain insight into how projection, switching, and reactivity can be assessed, coached, and programmed
