Attacking game speed: Developing side-stepping strategies and the “hunt” for cues

Presentation description

In this talk, Dan will discuss and outline how he aims to maximize the transfer of movement skills to key game moments. Enhancing an efficient and effective “hunt” for scenario specific defensive cues to develop the decision making process with elite rugby players. He does this by presenting a case study on how he aimed to accelerate the decision making process in attacking agility/evasion, by identifying and teaching of defensive cues (speed/space/shape) and how he used them to build specific evasion drills to maximize transfer in elite rugby.

Learning objectives

  • Identify and apply effective side-stepping techniques that enhance agility and directional change in attack scenarios.
  • Recognize and train athletes to detect and respond to visual and situational cues in dynamic game environments.
  • Integrate side-stepping and perceptual training into game-specific drills to accelerate decision speed under pressure.
