Presentation description
At Sportsmith we want to hear from the “doers”, not the “tellers”. And this presentation is certainly delivered by a “doer”. Yoeri Pegel presents his thoughts and practices on jump and plyometric training in team sports.
Yoeri starts by taking us through his process of reverse engineering the sports demands – sports demands > position specific demands > individual specific demands. He then details exactly how he categorises jump training and plyometrics to make it easier for us to programme this potent training stimulus with our athletes. In the second half of the presentations, Yoeri breaks down the assessment of jump capacities from objective methods to his subjective method and then gives us examples of how he uses those assessments to create interventions for our athletes.
Learning objectives
- Understand the framework for “reverse engineering” plyometric and jump‐training programmes appropriate for team sports.
- Identify and differentiate exercise progressions (from low to high intensity / complexity) for jump and plyometric work that align with athlete capacity, exposure, and sport demands.
- Evaluate and apply criteria for readiness, load, volume, and risk management in designing jump / plyometric training for team‐sport athletes.
About the presenter
Yoeri Pegel is the Head of Physical Development at San Diego FC. He draws on both scientific research and high-performance practice to outline how jump and plyometric training can be structured in team-sport environments. After transitioning into S&C he has amassed knowledge whilst working with a diverse population of athletes in a multitude of sports such as – football, basketball, combat sports, weightlifting, and field hockey.
