Presentation description
Much like we have done with speed training over the last 10 years when we have looked to track coaches, many are now looking to endurance coaches to understand aerobic training. In this presentation, Pathway Lead at English Cricket, Phil Scott takes us through the demands of cricket and builds a needs analysis that you can do with your athletes and sports. He then details exactly how he assesses his athletes to bucket them into profiles. This invovles using the anaerobic speed reserve and speed reserve ratio.
Learning objectives
- Understand athlete profiling using MAS and MSS: Learn how Maximal Aerobic Speed (MAS) and Maximal Sprinting Speed (MSS) are used to analyze individual anaerobic and aerobic capacities.
- Interpret athlete locomotor profiles by Differentiating between “speed,” “hybrid,” and “endurance” profiles based on MSS:MSS ratios or ASR, aligning conditioning strategies to each profile’s physiological strengths and limitations.
- Be able to Design effective aerobic training sessions using appropriate profiling tools, field-based MAS testing, and profile-specific conditioning protocols to enhance performance across varied athlete types.
About the presenter
Phil Scott, Pathway Lead at English Cricket, explores how accurate aerobic and sprint profiling (MAS and MSS) empowers practitioners to move beyond one-size-fits-all training. He emphasizes profiling athletes by locomotor characteristics—speed-biased, hybrid, or endurance-oriented—and integrating these insights with evidence-based, field-friendly conditioning strategies to optimize aerobic development and performance.
