Olympic Training and Testing Centre, Dortmund, Germany

Tobias is a sports scientists working at the Olympic Training and Testing Centre in Dortmund, Germany. Since 2017, he supports the national teams in track and field (sprint, relays, hurdles), bobsleigh and skeleton in terms of performance analysis, biomechanics and strength & conditioning, most recently at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing/China (10 medals) and at the 2022 European Championships in Munich/Germany (2 medals). He graduated (2008-2013) and lectured at the German Sport University Cologne (2011-2016). His PhD (2013-2018) dealed with the “Hamstring-quadriceps muscle balance – Isokinetic assessment and training-induced optimisation”. Dr. Alt merges scientific expertise (he published >20 international papers, most as first author) with practical experience (close collaboration with World and Olympic Champions) to exploit the highest potential from the individual capacities of each athlete. He is always seeking for innovation in sprint biomechanics (‘shin roll’ framework), eccentric resistance training (stepwise Nordic Hamstring Exercise progression), task-specific activation (‘reciprocal activation’ of the glutes) and isokinetic assessment (‘dynamic control ratio at the equilibrium point’, DCRe). Although he does not work at a university anymore, he is reviewer board member of 16 international journals and promotes the development of young sports scientists by supervising theses’ projects across Europe.
