Simon Thomas

Boston Red Sox

Simon Thomas is the Physical Performance Coordinator at the Boston Red Sox, with around two decades of experience in high-level professional sport. His work is grounded in building aligned systems, developing people, and creating environments where performance can be sustained, not just chased. Simon believes clarity of purpose, trust, accountability, and simple, repeatable processes are the foundations of any high-performance programme. His approach blends strategy with daily execution, always with people at the centre. Operating independently through his consultancy – Simon is working with individuals and organisations, alongside his current leadership role within the Boston Red Sox, in physical performance and player development in the United States. Most of his professional background sits in rugby across New Zealand, Australia, and Japan, with additional advisory roles at national level in Singapore and Brazil. He was fortunate to be involved in the early stages of the Tasman Mako, helping establish the union for the future, and to enjoy National and Provincial success with Canterbury Rugby. Simon later led the Crusaders physical performance department through four consecutive Super Rugby championships, growing his organisational leadership skillset in the MLR and spending time with the Western Force in Perth, as well as consulted with three professional teams in Japan. He has also experienced multiple years and international tours with the New Zealand Under 20s and the Māori All Blacks. Consequently, Simon is passionate about people, leadership, culture, and designing systems that allow both performance and people to thrive.
