Rosie Anderson

Manchester City Women

Rosie Anderson is a Physical Performance Scientist at Manchester City Women’s Football Club, where she leads the club’s female athlete health and athlete monitoring strategies. Having joined the club as a PhD researcher before transitioning into a full-time role, Rosie has built a strong foundation in translating research into applied practice within elite women’s football. Her role centres on developing evidence-based approaches to athlete health and performance. Working collaboratively with players, multidisciplinary staff, and external consultants, she balances scientific evidence, athlete perspectives, and insights gained through practice to inform decision-making across the performance environment. Alongside her applied responsibilities, Rosie oversees research and innovation projects and delivers education for players and staff, helping to ensure that scientific insights are embedded into practice. Rosie’s research has focused predominantly on menstrual health in professional women’s football. Her published work has explored menstrual health literacy among players and staff, as well as menstrual cycle characteristics and reproductive hormone profiles in elite footballers. This research has highlighted the importance of education, open communication, and recognising the considerable individual variation that exists between athletes, reinforcing the need for individualised and context-specific approaches to menstrual cycle monitoring and support.
