Bob Stewart is the Medical Lead for the England Men’s Rugby Team and one of the most experienced physiotherapists in international rugby. He graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University in 1995 with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy and began his career in the NHS before moving to New Zealand to work in a sports medicine clinic while playing rugby.
On returning to the UK he entered professional rugby with Glasgow Warriors and Scotland, beginning a career in elite sport that has now spanned more than two decades. In 2006 he joined Worcester Warriors, then moved to Gloucester Rugby where he spent ten years as Head of Medical Services before transitioning back into international rugby with England in 2016.
Bob has been the Official Team Physiotherapist for the British and Irish Lions on tours to New Zealand in 2005 and 2017, South Africa in 2009 and 2021, and Australia in 2013 and 2025. Alongside his clinical roles he has been a long-standing RFU PHICIS Faculty Member, contributing to the development of pre-hospital immediate care in sport.
